And it looks like the Gardaí are getting in on the act too…

Justice Minister Alan Shatter has turned off the tap and €36 million of savings have to be found.

But instead of the equitable solution of everyone sharing the pain, the existing old guard keeps their current bloated pay and entitlements, service levels suffer and criminal masterminds dance at the crossroads.

The true extent of the collective delusion and self-interest in the public sector is evident in the unions’ preference to sacrifice jobs to protect pay.

In marked contrast to private sector employees who have had pay cuts, redundancies and extended working hours imposed on them, certain cosseted areas of the public sector are still enjoying annual pay increases and fighting to retain archaic entitlements like the risible Garda bonuses for staff that don’t have the opportunity to earn overtime payments.
