In their ongoing quest to sanitise Irish society, the next target for a government sponsored witch hunt is the sex trade (they’ve already tackled smoking, boozing, head shops, obesity and speeding).
Their proposed legislation will criminalise the act of paying for sex, meaning the customer will be prosecuted.
The government’s misguided belief is that this will act as an effective deterrent and cut the metaphorical balls off the industry.
Prostitution is the oldest profession in the world. It has survived wars, inquisitions, crusades, famines and natural disasters. It’s unlikely a bunch of stuffy, ineffectual Irish politicians will cause it undue concern.
