Conchita Wurst, Austria’s bearded lady, was crowned, eh, queen of Eurovision on Saturday night, beating off stiff competition in the shape of a lovely, laid-back, country folk-ballad from the Netherlands.
While there’s no denying that it was a belter of a song and a great performance, was it the best song on the night? The Irish and British public didn’t think so.
The Times of London today reports that the people’s choice in Britain and Ireland was, in fact, the buxom Polish milkmaids performing We are Slavic.
Fortunately for Conchita however, the Irish and British juries decided the public were misguided and chose to ignore the result of the phone and text voting, instead awarding their douze points to Austria.
I guess we’re fortunate our national juries are so enlightened. After all beards are so hip right now!
