Spare a though for our local Firhouse councillor Brian Lawlor who failed to get re-elected in Friday’s local election.
A member of Fine Gael, Brian has worked tirelessly on behalf of the Firhouse community over the years and is always available to local residents.
When the electoral boundaries were redrawn last year, combining Firhouse with the more populous Templeogue/Terenure, it was never going to end well.
And the electorate’s bizarre alacrity to punish the mainstream parties didn’t help either.
Despite polling a respectable 1375 Brian just missed out on a seat.
Even more galling was that if he had run in Tallaght South, Tallaght Central or Rathfarnham (other South Dublin 6 seaters) he would have sailed in. Independent Dermot Richardson was elected in Tallaght South with a poll of just 370.
Democracy in action???
