What do you have to do to lose your job in this country? A lot, it transpires. And even then, the Employment Appeals Tribunal (EAT) has your back.
Last month it awarded €8,000 to a Dunnes Stores employee who was caught on camera repeatedly scoffing the produce of the deli counter she manned.
Another Dunnes Stores employee who was selling contraband cigarettes to fellow staff members, on company time, was also awarded a generous payout, while an employee who was covertly adding customer clubcard points to her own card was awarded €26,000 for unfair dismissal.
Today we hear that a convicted drug dealer was awarded €11,500 after he was sacked by Tesco for, well, being a convicted drug dealer.
And a Tesco store security guard, dismissed after assaulting a customer with a shopping bag, bagged €20,000.
Every little helps!
